# Record from several angles with Multi-Cam

Film the same rep from up to four angles at once with Multi-Cam: link extra iPhones or iPads on the same Wi-Fi, record from one device, and watch the angles side by side, already in sync.

Works on: iPhone and iPad. Multi-Cam isn't in the Android or web app.

Multi-Cam films one rep from two to four angles at the same moment: face-on and down-the-line for a golf swing, the open side and behind the plate for a pitch, side-on and front-on for a bowling action or a sprint start. Each extra iPhone or iPad sends its video to the main device, and Onform lines the angles up for you, so you can watch them side by side straight away.

## Before you start

* **A plan that includes Multi-Cam.** Plans differ in how many angles you can record, up to four. See [onform.com/pricing](https://onform.com/pricing/).
* **Two to four iPhones or iPads,** all signed in to the **same Onform account**. Your account works on several devices at no extra cost. One device is the main camera; the others (up to three) are extra cameras.
* **The same Wi-Fi network for every device.** You don't need internet, only a local network. No Wi-Fi where you train? Turn on Personal Hotspot on one iPhone, join the others to it, and use that iPhone as the main camera. A small travel router also works.
* **The same Onform version on every device.** Update them all from the App Store first.
* **Local Network turned on.** On each device, open **Settings**, tap **Onform** (under **Apps** on newer versions) and make sure **Local Network** is on.
* Set each device on a tripod or stand, with your athlete's whole body in frame.

## Link the devices

1. On each extra device, open Onform, go to a Library and tap the record button to open the camera.
2. Tap the mode name at the top of the camera and choose **Auxiliary-Cam**. On an iPad you can also tap **Multi-Cam** and turn on **Set As Auxiliary Camera**. The screen shows **Scanning Primary Device**.
3. On the main device, open the camera in the Library where you want the videos, and choose **Manual**, **One-Tap**, **Auto-Detect** or **Launch-Monitor**.
4. The devices link on their own. Each extra device shows **Paired with** and the main device's name, and the main device shows a small preview from each extra camera.

## Record

1. Record on the main device as usual. The extra cameras start and stop with it.
2. When you stop, give it a few seconds while the extra cameras send their videos to the main device.
3. Tap the new video to watch all the angles together, already in sync.

Multi-Cam recordings can be up to 20 seconds long, so the videos transfer quickly. Videos with more than one angle are marked with a multi-angle icon in your Library.

To choose how many angles you see at once, open the video and tap **Layout**, then pick **1-Panel View**, **2-Panel View**, **3-Panel View** or **4-Panel View**. iPhone shows up to 2 panels; iPad shows up to 4. See [Watch several angles at once](https://github.com/Onform-Inc/onform-docs/tree/main/sports/golf/golf-analysis/new-4-way-video-player.md).

### Tips for the main camera

* To change which angle appears in which panel, tap **...** on an angle's preview and choose **Change Camera Position**.
* With **Auto-Detect**, only one camera watches for the swing or pitch. Tap **...** on the preview you want and choose **Use This Camera For Auto-Detect**. For golf, use the face-on camera.
* If the link drops, lower the frame rate on the extra cameras to 60 or 30 fps. Smaller files travel more easily over Wi-Fi.

## Use an iPad as the remote

If your plan includes it, an iPad can run the session without filming itself, so you can walk around and coach while two or more iPhones or iPads record.

1. Link at least one extra camera to the iPad, as above.
2. On the iPad, tap **Multi-Cam** and turn on **Set As Control Device**.
3. The iPad's own camera turns off and you see the extra cameras instead. Tap record on the iPad to start and stop them all. The videos save on the iPad.

To go back to the iPad's own camera, tap **Multi-Cam** and turn **Set As Control Device** off.

## Line up the angles after recording

Onform lines the angles up for you, but sometimes one angle is a fraction of a second early or late. You'll see it when the club, ball or foot hits at a slightly different moment in each panel. You can fix this yourself.

Works on iPhone and iPad. Adjusting the sync isn't available on Android or web.

1. Open the multi-angle video in the Library.
2. Tap **...** at the top, then **Adjust Multicam Sync**.
3. Each angle now has its own slider and **Previous frame** and **Next frame** buttons. For each angle, move to the same moment, such as the instant of impact.
4. Check that every panel shows that same moment, then tap **Save**. Tap **Cancel** if you'd rather leave the sync as it was.

The video then plays all the angles from the moments you chose. The change is saved on the video itself, so everyone you've shared it with sees the new sync, not only you.

## Combine videos recorded separately into one multi-angle video

You don't always need to link the cameras. If two people film the same rep on their own devices, for example you and the athlete's parent, Onform can join the two videos into one multi-angle video for you. There's nothing to tap: it happens on its own once both videos have finished uploading.

For the videos to be joined:

* They need to be in the **same one-on-one workspace** (one athlete's workspace, not a team).
* They need to be recorded on **different devices**, at almost the same moment (within about three seconds of each other).
* Both need to be regular videos that have finished uploading to Onform. Voice-over recordings and images aren't joined.

What happens next:

* The earlier video stays as the main video, and the other video's footage is added to it as another angle. Open it and use **Layout** to see the angles together.
* The extra video disappears from the Library, because its footage now lives in the combined video. Anyone who could see either video can see the combined one, and tags and people tags from both are kept.
* It can take a little while after the second upload finishes before the combined video appears.
* Videos recorded this way aren't linked by Wi-Fi, so the angles may not be perfectly in step. Use **Adjust Multicam Sync** (above) to line them up.

If you'd rather have the angles recorded and lined up together from the start, link the devices as described above.

## If something goes wrong

| What you see | What to do |
| ----------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| The extra device stays on **Scanning Primary Device** | Check both devices are signed in to the same Onform account, on the same Wi-Fi, with **Local Network** on for Onform. Make sure the main device's camera is open in a mode like **Manual** or **One-Tap**, not **Auxiliary-Cam**. |
| Still not linking | Update Onform on every device, restart them all and try again. Some public, guest or club Wi-Fi networks block devices from talking to each other: use one iPhone's Personal Hotspot instead. If you use a Garmin R50, join the devices to your Wi-Fi rather than the R50's own hotspot. |
| Some videos have only one angle | The Wi-Fi was too weak or busy to bring the extra video across. Move the devices closer to the router, lower the extra cameras' frame rate, and record again. |
| **Unlock Multi-Cam Recording** when you tap record | You've linked more cameras than your plan allows. Disconnect one, or see [onform.com/pricing](https://onform.com/pricing/). |
| No **Multi-Cam** button on iPhone | On iPhone, use the mode list instead: choose **Auxiliary-Cam** for an extra camera. The **Multi-Cam** button and the remote option are on iPad. |

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.onform.com/coaching/record-and-import/how-to-use-the-multi-cam-feature-to-record-multiple-camera-angles-simultaneously.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
