# Import videos

Bring videos into Onform from your camera roll, files, another Onform Library, the web, a GoPro or SD card, or OneDrive, Dropbox and Google Drive.

Works on: iPhone, iPad, Android and web.

Already filmed it on your phone, a GoPro or another camera? Import it into Onform and you can play it back, draw on it, compare it and share it, just like a video you recorded in the app. This works for photos too, and for PDFs such as a drill sheet or a practice plan.

## Before you start

* Import into the right place. Open the Library of the athlete or team the video is for, or your own Library for your own videos and reference clips. The video goes into whichever Library you import from.
* Imported videos count toward your plan's video limit. If you've reached it, or your plan has ended, Onform asks you to upgrade when you tap **Import**. See [onform.com/pricing](https://onform.com/pricing/). Athletes and parents invited by a coach import for free.
* On iPhone and iPad, Onform needs access to your photos. In your device's **Settings**, find **Onform**, tap **Photos** and choose **Full Access**.
* You need an internet connection to upload what you import, and to import from another Onform Library.

## Import into a Library

{% tabs %}
{% tab title="iPhone and iPad" %}

1. Open your Library, or the Library inside an athlete's or team's workspace.
2. Tap **Import** at the top right.
3. Choose where the video is:
   * **Camera Roll**: the videos and photos on your iPhone or iPad. Select as many as you like, then tap **Add**. Onform asks whether to **Keep Original Date** (the day you filmed it) or **Use Today's Date**.
   * **Files**: a file in the Files app, on a memory card, or in a cloud drive such as iCloud Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox or Google Drive. You can pick one file at a time. The video takes the file's name and today's date.
   * **Another Onform Library**: a video that's already in Onform, in another workspace. Pick it and tap **Import**. Onform adds a copy and leaves the original where it is. You won't see this option in **Library - All Files**, or if you only have one Library.

Videos stored in iCloud download to your device first, so a big batch can take a while.
{% endtab %}

{% tab title="Android and web" %}

1. Open your Library, or the Library inside an athlete's or team's workspace.
2. Tap the **⋯** menu at the top right, then **Import**.
3. Under **Select Source**, choose where the video is:
   * **Gallery** (Android app only): the videos and photos on your phone or tablet. You can pick several at once.
   * **Files**: any file on your phone, tablet or computer. You can pick several at once. In the web app, this is how you upload videos from your computer.
   * **Another Onform Library**: a video that's already in Onform, in another workspace. Pick the Library, then the video. Onform adds a copy and leaves the original where it is. You won't see this option in **Library - All Files**.

In the web app, keep the tab open until the upload window shows that every file is done. Each file can be up to 1 GB on the web. If a file is bigger, Onform offers to skip it and carry on with the rest.
{% endtab %}
{% endtabs %}

## Send a video straight into a chat

To post a video you already have in a chat with an athlete, a coach or a team, tap the folder icon next to the message box and choose **Import From Camera Roll**, **Import From Files** or **Add From Onform Library**. The video is posted in the chat and saved to that workspace's Library.

## Share to Onform from another app (iPhone and iPad)

You can send videos to Onform from Photos, the Files app or another app, without opening Onform first.

1. In the other app, select one or more videos and tap **Share**.
2. Tap **Onform**. If you can't see it, scroll to the end of the row of apps, tap **More** and add Onform.
3. On the **Share to Onform** screen, tap the destination to choose where the videos go. Pick a workspace (or search for an athlete or team), then tap **Save to Library**. You can also pick a person or group to share the videos with straight away, and add a message.
4. Tap **Share**.
5. Open Onform. The videos are added to Onform when you next open the app.

You need to be signed in to Onform on that device. On Android there's no Onform option in the share menu, so import from inside Onform instead.

## Import lots of videos at once

* **iPhone and iPad:** **Camera Roll** takes as many videos as you like in one go. **Files** takes one at a time, so to bring in lots of files (from a memory card or a cloud drive, say), select them in the Files app and share them to Onform (see above), or save them to your photos first and then use **Camera Roll**.
* **Android and web:** select several videos at once in **Gallery** or **Files**.

Big batches take time to upload. Keep Onform open on Wi-Fi until they've all finished.

## Import from a GoPro or SD card

Action cameras such as a GoPro can't connect to Onform as a live camera, but you can import what they record.

{% tabs %}
{% tab title="iPhone and iPad" %}

1. Plug an SD card reader into your iPhone or iPad and put the camera's card in it.
2. Bring the videos in either way:
   * In Onform, tap **Import**, then **Files**, and find the card under **Locations**. The videos are usually in the **DCIM** folder. This brings in one video at a time.
   * For several videos, open the Files app, go to the card's **DCIM** folder, select the videos, tap **Share** and choose **Onform**.

If your camera has its own phone app that saves videos to your photos, you can also save them there and use **Camera Roll**.
{% endtab %}

{% tab title="Android and web" %}

* **Web:** put the card in your computer (or a card reader), then in Onform tap **⋯**, **Import**, **Files** and pick the videos from the card's **DCIM** folder. Each file can be up to 1 GB, and long action-camera recordings are often bigger than that. Trim them first, or import them in the iPhone, iPad or Android app.
* **Android:** copy the videos from the card to your phone or tablet, then import them with **Gallery** or **Files**. If your phone shows a connected card reader in its file picker, you can also pick them straight from the card with **Files**.
  {% endtab %}
  {% endtabs %}

## Import from OneDrive, Dropbox or Google Drive

{% tabs %}
{% tab title="iPhone and iPad" %}
**Start in Onform:**

1. Install the cloud app (OneDrive, Dropbox or Google Drive) and sign in to it.
2. In Onform, tap **Import**, then **Files**, then **Browse**.
3. Choose the cloud drive under **Locations** and pick your video. If it isn't listed, tap the **⋯** button at the top, tap **Edit** and turn it on.

**Or start in the cloud app:**

1. In OneDrive, Dropbox or Google Drive, open the menu next to the video and tap **Share**.
2. Choose the option that sends the file itself, often **Send a copy** or **Export**, not one that sends a link.
3. Tap **Onform**, choose where the video goes and tap **Share**.
   {% endtab %}

{% tab title="Android and web" %}

* **Android:** in Onform, tap **⋯**, **Import**, **Files**. Your phone's file picker usually lists the cloud drives you've installed, such as Google Drive. If yours isn't there, download the video to your phone in the cloud app first, then import it.
* **Web:** download the video from the cloud drive to your computer, then upload it with **⋯**, **Import**, **Files**.
  {% endtab %}
  {% endtabs %}

## Where your imported videos go

* Imported videos go into the Library you imported them from. In a workspace, they're private to you or visible to everyone in it, depending on that Library's setting. See [Library visibility and sharing options](/coaching/teach-and-share/library-visibility-and-sharing-options-default-private-or-default-shared.md). To send one to someone, share it as you would any video: see [Share videos with one or more people](/coaching/teach-and-share/how-to-share-videos-to-one-or-multiple-people.md).
* Your Library is sorted by the date each video was filmed. If you chose **Keep Original Date**, older videos slot in among your other videos from that time, so scroll back to find them.
* Onform uploads each video in the background so you can see it on your other devices. Until it's finished, only the device you imported it on can play it.

If Onform only has access to some photos, tap **Edit the photos Onform can access** and add the videos. Then import again. |
| A few videos from your camera roll won't import (iPhone or iPad) | Make sure you're online, since videos kept in iCloud have to download first. Try them one at a time. If one still won't come in, save it to the Files app and import it with **Files**, or email us. |
| You're asked to upgrade when you tap **Import** | You've reached your plan's video limit, or your plan has ended. Still stuck? Email <support@onform.com> with your device, the Onform version, where the video came from and a screenshot.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.onform.com/coaching/record-and-import/import-videos.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
