# Draw on the camera before you record

Draw lines and shapes on the live camera picture in Onform before you record, to check an athlete's setup or alignment in real time. The drawings are saved with the video.

Works on: iPhone and iPad. Drawing on the live camera isn't in the Android app, and you can't record in the web app.

You can draw on the camera picture before you press record: a spine line for a golfer's posture, a line along the feet for a batter's stance, a box around a tennis player's contact zone, a circle where a sprinter's head should be at the start. Your athlete sets up, you check them against the lines live, and the lines are saved with the video you record.

## Before you start

* You need a plan that includes drawing in the live camera view. If yours doesn't, you'll see **Draw lines prior to recording** with an **Upgrade** button. See [onform.com/pricing](https://onform.com/pricing/).
* Put the device on a tripod or stand. The lines stay where you draw them on the screen, so if the camera moves they won't line up any more.

## Steps

1. Open the camera: go to a Library and tap the record button.
2. Tap the pencil button in the camera. The drawing tools open, the same ones you use on recorded videos.
3. Choose a tool and colour, and draw on the live picture.
4. To remove a drawing, tap it to select it, then tap the delete button.
5. Record as usual. The drawings are saved with the video, so they're there when you play it back.
6. Tap the pencil again to put the tools away.

The timer tool isn't available in the camera, and you can't draw while the device is an extra camera in Multi-Cam or an iPad is the Multi-Cam remote.

**Coaching in a studio?** Mirror your iPhone or iPad to a TV with **Screen Mirroring** in Control Center. Your athlete sees their setup and your lines on the big screen while they adjust.
{% endhint %}

## If something goes wrong

| No pencil button in the camera | You may be in **Auxiliary-Cam** mode, or your iPad may be set as the Multi-Cam remote. Switch to **Manual** or another mode. |
| **Draw lines prior to recording** appears | Your plan doesn't include drawing on the live camera. See [onform.com/pricing](https://onform.com/pricing/). |
| The drawings aren't on the recorded video | Open Onform's settings (on the Home screen, tap your profile icon, then the settings icon), go to **Video Player** and turn off **Disable Saving Of Drawings**. |

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.onform.com/coaching/record-and-import/live-drawing-helps-analyze-setup-form-before-recording.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
