# Send one message to many athletes

Send one message or video to every athlete, parent or client in a collection at once, on iPhone and iPad. Each person gets it privately and replies only to you.

Works on: iPhone and iPad. Broadcasting isn't in the Android or web app yet.

A broadcast sends the same message, video or file to everyone in a collection, such as **All Individuals**, **All Teams** or a collection you've made, for example "Tuesday juniors". Each person gets it **privately**, in their own chat with you, and any reply comes back only to you. Nobody sees who else got it.

Use it for things like a schedule change, a holiday message or a drill video for all your clients. To start a conversation the whole team can join in, post in the team's **Everyone** group instead. See [Chat and messages](/coaching/teach-and-share/chat-and-messages.md).

## Before you start

* You need to be a coach.
* Broadcasts reach people who've joined your workspaces. People you've invited who haven't joined yet won't get it.
* Group your athletes into collections first if you want to message only some of them. See [One-on-one, team or Collection: which to use](https://github.com/Onform-Inc/onform-docs/tree/main/programs/teams-and-rosters/when-to-use-individuals-teams-or-collections-to-stay-organized.md).

## Choose who gets it

Every broadcast has a **Send To** choice. It decides who, inside each workspace in the collection, gets the message:

| Choice                                                                                           | Who gets it                                                     |
| ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ | --------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Everyone** | Every member: athletes, parents and any other coaches or staff. |
| **Everyone Except Staff** | Athletes and parents. |
| **Just Parents**                                                                                 | Parents only.                                                   |
| **Just** plus your sport's word for athletes (for example **Just Players** or **Just Students**) | Athletes only. |

Onform remembers your last choice, so check it before you send.

## Send a broadcast message

1. On Home, find the collection, for example **All Individuals**.
2. Tap the three dots next to its name and tap **Broadcast Message**. A broadcast chat for that collection opens. The top shows how many people it reaches.
3. Tap **Send To** under the message box and pick who gets it.
4. Type your message and tap send. You can also add a video or file with the buttons under the box, or a [saved reply](/coaching/teach-and-share/chat-and-messages.md#saved-replies).

Your past broadcasts to that collection stay in this chat, so you can see what you sent and when. Tap **X** at the top to close it.

## Broadcast videos from your Library

1. In your **Library**, touch and hold a video and tap **Broadcast**. For several videos, tap **Select**, tap each video, then tap the **…** button (**More** on iPad) and choose **Broadcast**.
2. On **Select Collections**, tap **Send To** at the top and pick who gets it.
3. Tap each collection you want to send to, then tap **Next**.
4. Check the recipients, add a message if you like, and tap **Send Privately**.

If a video is still uploading, you'll see that it will be broadcast once it finishes uploading. Keep Onform open with a good connection until it does.

## What your athletes see

The message or video appears in their private chat with you, like any other message, and they get a notification if they've turned notifications on. When they reply, only you see it. Videos you broadcast also appear in that workspace's **Library**.

## If something goes wrong

| What you see | What to do |
| ---------------------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| No **Broadcast** option | Broadcasting is on iPhone and iPad only, and only for coaches. Update Onform to the latest version. |
| "Because this video is a sample video, it cannot be broadcasted" | Sample videos can't be sent. Record or import your own. |
| "Broadcasting this file has been restricted" | The video's owner has stopped it being shared on. Ask them, or use your own video. |
| An athlete didn't get the broadcast | Check they've joined the workspace (not just been invited), that their workspace is in the collection you picked, and that **Send To** included them. |
| Parents got a message meant for athletes | Check **Send To** before you send. Onform keeps your last choice. |

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.onform.com/coaching/teach-and-share/broadcast-messages.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
