# Stop others re-sharing your videos

Stop the people you share a video with from sharing it on, copying it or saving it, and what restricting does and doesn't do.

Works on: iPhone, iPad, Android and web.

When you share a video, the people you share it with can usually share it on, send a link to it or save it. If a video is your own coaching content, or shows a young athlete, you can restrict it so only you can pass it on. A lock shows on the video's thumbnail once it's restricted.

## Before you start

* You can only restrict videos you own: ones you recorded or imported yourself. Coaches, athletes and parents can all restrict their own videos.
* You don't see the option on videos other people shared with you.

## Restrict a video

{% tabs %}
{% tab title="iPhone and iPad" %}
**In your Library:**

1. Touch and hold the video.
2. Tap **Restrict Further Sharing**.

You'll see **Sharing by others has been restricted**, and a lock on the thumbnail.

**In a chat:**

1. Touch and hold the video.
2. Tap **Restrict sharing**.

To undo it, do the same and tap **Enable Further Sharing** (Library) or **Enable sharing** (chat).
{% endtab %}

{% tab title="Android and web" %}
**In your Library:**

1. Tap the three dots next to the video.
2. Tap **Restrict Sharing**.

**In a chat:** long-press the video, then tap **Restrict Sharing**.

A lock shows on the thumbnail. To undo it, do the same and tap **Enable Sharing**.
{% endtab %}
{% endtabs %}

## What restricting does

Once a video is restricted, everyone except you:

* can't share it with other people in Onform
* can't copy a link to it, or send it by email or to other apps
* can't save it to their device
* can't copy or duplicate it

If they try, they see a message that sharing this video has been restricted and to contact the owner.

## What it doesn't do

* **It doesn't take the video away from people who already have it.** They can still watch it. Restricting only stops them passing it on.
* **It can't stop a screen recording**, or someone filming the screen with another phone. It makes passing your video on much harder, not impossible.

To take a video back from everyone you've shared it with, on iPhone and iPad touch and hold it and tap **Make Private**. Anyone who already has a direct link to it may still be able to open it. This option isn't on Android or web yet.

## If something goes wrong

| What you see | What to do |
| ----------------------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| You don't see **Restrict Sharing** | You can only restrict videos you added. Ask the person who recorded or imported it to restrict it. |
| "Sharing this video has been restricted" | The video's owner has restricted it. Ask them to share it for you, or to turn sharing back on. |
| You can't copy or duplicate your own restricted video (iPhone and iPad) | Turn sharing back on, copy or duplicate it, then restrict it again. |
| Someone still has a video you restricted | That's expected: restricting doesn't unshare. On iPhone and iPad, use **Make Private**. |

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.onform.com/coaching/teach-and-share/the-restrict-sharing-option-explained.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
