# Transcripts of your Voice-overs

Onform writes down what you say while you record a Voice-over, so you and your athlete can read and copy your feedback. Here's where to find the transcript, how to fix it and which devices make one.

Works on: iPhone and iPad (iOS 26 or later) and Android to make a transcript. Anyone can read it on iPhone, iPad, Android and web.

When you record a Voice-over, Onform writes down what you say as you talk. The transcript is saved with the Voice-over, so your athlete can read your feedback as well as hear it, jump to a point in the video, or copy the text into their notes.

There's nothing to turn on. If your device can transcribe, every Voice-over you record gets a transcript.

## Before you start

* **Your device makes the transcript, while you record.** It happens on your iPhone, iPad or Android phone, not afterwards.
  * **iPhone and iPad** need iOS or iPadOS 26 or later.
  * **Android** needs a phone that supports Google's on-device speech recognition. Not every Android phone does.
* **Speak in your device's language.** Onform transcribes in the language your phone or tablet is set to.
  * **iPhone and iPad** support many languages.
  * **Android** supports English, Chinese, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Turkish and Vietnamese. English works best. The others are still early, so expect more mistakes.
* **The first time, your device may need to download its speech model.** Stay connected the first time you record a Voice-over after updating.
* **Transcripts are only for Voice-overs.** Other videos don't get one.

To record a Voice-over, see [How to record a Voice-over](/coaching/analyze/how-to-record-a-voiceover.md).

## Check and fix the transcript before you save

Right after you finish recording, the Voice-over screen shows your video with the transcript.

{% tabs %}
{% tab title="iPhone and iPad" %}
On iPhone the transcript is below the video. On iPad it's a card on the right.

1. Tap any line to jump to that moment in the video.
2. To fix a line, press and hold it, correct the text, then tap **Save**.
3. If you trim the Voice-over, the transcript is trimmed to match.
4. Tap **Save** at the top to save the Voice-over and its transcript.

You can only fix the transcript before you save. Once it's saved, the transcript can't be edited.
{% endtab %}

{% tab title="Android" %}

1. Tap the edit button on the transcript and correct the text.
2. Tap it again when you're done editing.
3. Tap **Save** to save the Voice-over and its transcript.

On Android the transcript is one block of text, without times for each line.
{% endtab %}
{% endtabs %}

## Read or copy a transcript

Anyone who can see the Voice-over can read its transcript: you, your athlete and anyone you share it with.

1. Open the Voice-over from the Library or the chat.
2. The transcript shows next to the video. To hide it or bring it back, tap the speech bubble button at the top of the screen. On iPhone you can also swipe the transcript down to hide it.
3. If the transcript has times, tap a line to jump to that moment. The line being spoken is highlighted as the video plays.
4. Tap the copy button (two overlapping pages) next to **Transcript** to copy all of it. You can paste it into a message, an email or your notes.

This works on iPhone, iPad, Android and the web app. If you don't see the speech bubble button, the Voice-over doesn't have a transcript.

## Add a written summary when you share (iPhone and iPad)

On an iPhone or iPad with Apple Intelligence turned on, Onform can write a short summary of your Voice-over when you share it.

1. Share a single Voice-over the usual way. See [How to share videos](/coaching/teach-and-share/how-to-share-videos-to-one-or-multiple-people.md).
2. On the message step, wait a moment while Onform summarizes the Voice-over. The summary appears in the message box, starting with "Feedback Summary".
3. Edit it if you like, then send. To leave it out, tick **Don't include the voice-over summary**.

The summary is only offered when you share one Voice-over that has a transcript, and only on devices that support Apple Intelligence.

## How accurate is it?

Transcripts are made by your device's speech recognition, so they're a helpful record of what you said, not a word-perfect one. Expect occasional mistakes, especially with:

* Names, drills and sport terms
* Background noise, like a busy range, gym or pool deck
* Several people talking at once

For the best results, record somewhere quiet and speak clearly towards your device. Fix any important mistakes before you save. Your voice is always the full lesson, so your athlete can listen if a line doesn't read right.

## If something goes wrong

| What you see | What to do |
| ------------------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| No transcript, and no speech bubble button | Your device may not support transcription, or your device's language isn't supported. On iPhone and iPad, update to iOS 26 or later. The Voice-over itself is fine. |
| No transcript on an older Voice-over | Transcripts are made while you record, so Voice-overs recorded before you updated, or on a device that couldn't transcribe, won't have one. |
| The transcript is in the wrong language | Onform uses your device's language. Change your device's language, then record the Voice-over again. |
| The Android transcript has no times | That's expected. Android transcripts are one block of text. |
| No summary offered when sharing | The summary needs an iPhone or iPad with Apple Intelligence, and you need to share just one Voice-over that has a transcript. |

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.onform.com/coaching/teach-and-share/transcription.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
