# Which iPhone or iPad do I need?

Which iPhone, iPad, Mac or Android device Onform needs, what we recommend for 3D and every feature, and what to do on an older iPad that can't update.

Works on: iPhone, iPad, Android and web.

## What Onform needs

* **iPhone and iPad:** iOS or iPadOS 18.6 or later.
* **Android:** Android 8.0 or later.
* **Mac:** there's no separate Mac app, but the iPad app runs on Macs with Apple silicon (M1 or newer). You can also use the web app.
* **Web app:** sign in at [app.getonform.com](https://app.getonform.com/) in your browser.

Coaches get the most from an iPhone or iPad: some tools, such as 3D, Multi-Cam and launch monitors, are only there. See [What works on which app](/how-onform-works/what-works-on-which-app.md).

## Get Onform on your device

* **iPhone or iPad:** open the App Store, search for "Onform" and tap **Get**.
* **Android:** open the Google Play Store app on the phone itself (not on a computer). Check you're signed in with your Google account (your profile picture at the top right), search for "Onform" and tap **Install**.
* **Computer:** there's nothing to install. Open the [web app](https://app.getonform.com/) in your browser and sign in the same way you do on your phone.

## What we recommend for every feature

For every feature, including the newest 3D and tracking tools, we recommend one of these, on the latest iOS, iPadOS or macOS:

* **iPhone:** iPhone 14 Pro (A16 Bionic) or newer.
* **iPad:** an iPad with an M1 chip or newer. For iPad Pro, that's the 11-inch (3rd generation) or 12.9-inch (5th generation) and later. iPad Pro models have better cameras and more frame rate options than iPad Air, though a recent iPad Air works nearly as well.
* **Mac:** M1 or newer.

## Choosing a phone just for recording

You don't need the top model for a phone that only records, such as one fixed in a hitting bay. For golf, we recommend an iPhone 14 Pro or newer, recording at 120 fps or higher so slow-motion replay stays sharp. The Ultra-Wide lens helps if the camera can't be far from the golfer. Auto-Detect works on newer iPhones and iPads. See [Record video in Onform](/how-onform-works/recording-modes.md).

## Older iPads and iPhones

If your device runs iOS or iPadOS 18.6 or later, Onform works on it. Recording, drawing, Compare and Voice-overs all work, though some features are slower. 3D still works, more slowly, and club tracking needs a newer device (see [3D questions and problems](https://github.com/Onform-Inc/onform-docs/tree/main/sports/golf/golf-analysis/3d-faqs.md)).

### 3D on an older iPad

* **Update first.** If 3D won't generate on one device but works on another, update Onform from the App Store: search for Onform and tap **Update** if you see it. A recent update fixed 3D not generating on some older devices. See [Find your app version](https://github.com/Onform-Inc/onform-docs/tree/main/help/troubleshooting/how-to-find-your-app-version.md).
* **How long it takes.** On newer iPads and iPhones (A16 or M-series chips), 3D usually takes about 5 to 6 seconds. Older devices typically take about 30 seconds to a minute, but still work. Keep Onform open on the video while it works.
* **Not sure which model you have?** Open **Settings** > **General** > **About** and look at **Model Number**. If 3D still doesn't generate after updating, email us with that model number.

## A device that can't update

If your iPhone or iPad can't update to iOS or iPadOS 18.6, the old version of Onform on it may stop letting you sign in, or show errors. You can still:

* **Use the web app.** Sign in at [app.getonform.com](https://app.getonform.com/) the same way as before (Apple, Google, Microsoft or email code). You can see your Library, delete videos and add videos with **Upload Files**. The web app can't record.
* **Keep filming on another device.** Install Onform on a newer iPhone, iPad or Android device and sign in the same way as before. Your videos and coaches are all there. See [Sign in on a new phone or iPad](https://github.com/Onform-Inc/onform-docs/tree/main/help/troubleshooting/sign-in-on-a-new-phone-or-ipad.md).
* **Record with another camera app** and upload the videos in the web app.
