# Use Onform without a connection

What you can do in Onform without Wi-Fi or mobile data, how to keep the videos you need on your iPhone, iPad or Android device, and what happens to uploads until you reconnect.

Works on: iPhone, iPad and Android. The web app needs an internet connection.

At a range, a pool or an away field, you won't always have signal. Onform keeps recent videos on your phone or tablet and stores the rest in the Onform cloud, so you can keep coaching offline as long as the videos you need are already on your device. New videos wait on your device and upload when you're back online.

## How it works

* **Recent videos are on your device.** Videos you record or import stay on that phone or tablet for a while (on iPhone and iPad, 2 weeks unless you change it), then Onform clears the copy on your device to save space. They're still safe in the cloud.
* **Older videos are in the cloud.** A thumbnail with a cloud icon means the video isn't on this device. It downloads when you tap it, which needs a connection.
* **New videos wait for a connection.** Anything you record or import offline is saved on your device and uploads when you're back online. Until then, on iPhone and iPad, **Library - All Files** shows a pending upload count and the Library says **Uploads paused as device is offline**.

## What works offline

{% tab title="iPhone and iPad" %}
Without a connection you can:

* Record and import videos.
* Watch, draw on, Compare and record Voice-overs on videos that are on your device.
* Use 3D, once the AI models are on your device. See [Turn on 3D and download the AI models](/set-up/how-to-enable-3d-processing-and-download-the-latest-ai-models.md).
* Read your chats. Messages you send go out when you reconnect.

You need a connection to open videos that are only in the cloud, and to share videos with other people: a video has to finish uploading before you can share it.

{% tab title="Android and web" %}
**Android:** you can watch videos that are on your phone, including any you've made available offline (below). You need a connection to share, move or copy videos, to import from another Onform Library, and to change who can see a Library's files.

**Web app:** the web app needs an internet connection the whole time.

{% endtabs %}

## Keep the videos you need on your device

Do this while you still have a connection, before you head out.

{% tabs %}
{% tab title="iPhone and iPad" %}

1. **Star** the videos you'll need: tap the star on the thumbnail in the Library. Starred videos, and everything in your **Reference Content** folder, are never cleared from your device automatically.
2. Make sure each one is downloaded. If a thumbnail shows a cloud icon, touch and hold it and tap **Download To Cache**, or just open the video once.
3. Want recent videos to stay longer? On the Home screen, tap your profile icon, then the settings icon, then **Local Cache Settings**, and choose how long to keep files, from **Keep files for 24 hours** to **Keep files forever**.

Tip: in Onform's Settings, under **Cloud Sync** on iPhone and iPad, **Enable Proactive Downloads** downloads videos automatically when their thumbnails appear in your Library or chats, so scrolling through a workspace while you're connected brings its videos onto your device. It uses more data and storage.
{% endtab %}

{% tab title="Android and web" %}

1. In the Library, tap the three dots next to the video and tap **Make Available Offline**. For several videos, select them, tap the three dots at the top and tap **Make Available Offline**.
2. Wait until they've finished downloading.
3. To control how long videos stay on your phone, tap your profile icon on the Home screen, then **Local Cache Settings**, and choose from **Keep files for 24 hours** to **Keep files for forever**.

The web app doesn't keep videos for offline use.
{% endtab %}
{% endtabs %}

Keeping lots of videos on your device uses storage. If your phone or tablet fills up, choose a shorter time in **Local Cache Settings** or tap **Clear video cache** (**Clear Cache** on Android) there. That only removes the copies on your device: your videos stay in the cloud. See [How to manage storage space](https://github.com/Onform-Inc/onform-docs/tree/main/help/troubleshooting/how-to-manage-storage-space.md).

## Before you delete the app

Videos still waiting to upload are only on that phone or tablet. If you delete Onform before they upload, they're gone. Check first: on iPhone and iPad, if **Library - All Files** shows a pending upload count, connect and keep Onform open until the count disappears.

## If something goes wrong

| **Uploads paused as cellular backup is disabled** (iPhone and iPad) | Join Wi-Fi, or tap your profile icon on the Home screen, then the settings icon, and turn on **Backup Files Over Cellular (If Available)**. |

| Starred videos disappeared from your iPhone or iPad | Choosing **Clear all including reference & starred** when you clear the cache removes them too. Open them once while connected to download them again. |

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.onform.com/how-onform-works/working-offline-with-onform.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
