# Use a Pocket Radar or Stalker radar with Onform

Connect a Pocket Radar Smart Coach or a Stalker radar to Onform on iPhone or iPad so each pitch, hit, serve or shot records itself and shows its speed on the video.

Works on: iPhone and iPad. Not in the Android or web app.

Connect your radar to the Onform camera and it does the filming for you. Each time the radar reads a speed, Onform saves a short video of that rep with the speed on it. Use it for a pitcher's velocity, a hitter's exit speed, a bowler's pace, a tennis serve or a slapshot, and coach hands-free.

## Before you start

* **A radar:** a Pocket Radar Smart Coach, or a Stalker radar with Bluetooth. Charge it and turn it on.
* **The latest version of Onform** on your iPhone or iPad.
* **Bluetooth on**, and Onform allowed to use it. The radar connects straight to Onform over Bluetooth.
* **Your sport:** the **Sport-Radar** mode shows for baseball, softball, cricket, tennis, hockey, lacrosse, soccer, football and volleyball. Golf uses **Launch-Monitor** instead (see Related).
* **Your plan:** the radar connections depend on your plan. If you see an upgrade message, see [onform.com/pricing](https://onform.com/pricing/).

## Connect your radar

1. In Onform, open the athlete's or team's workspace and tap **Library** (or tap **Library - All Files** on Home).
2. Tap the record button. The camera opens.
3. Tap the mode name at the top of the camera (for example **Manual**), then tap **Sport-Radar**.
4. Choose your radar: **Use Pocket-Radar (Beta)** or **Use Stalker-Radar**.
5. Onform starts looking for the radar.
   * **Pocket Radar, the first time:** when you see **Press both buttons to pair**, press both buttons on the radar at the same time to put it in pairing mode.
   * **Stalker:** make sure the radar's Bluetooth is on.
6. When your radar appears in the list, tap **Connect**.
7. When the status says the radar is ready, you're set.

Next time you choose **Use Pocket-Radar (Beta)**, Onform reconnects to the same Pocket Radar on its own. To switch radars, tap the **...** button next to the radar status, tap **Disconnect**, and pick the other radar from the list.

## Record with the radar

1. Set up the camera and the radar on the rep, for example the camera side-on to the pitcher and the radar behind the catcher. A tripod for each makes this easy.
2. Leave the camera open on the **Sport-Radar** screen. There's no need to tap record.
3. Let the athlete go. Each time the radar reads a speed, Onform saves the seconds before and after the reading as one video, in the Library you opened the camera from.
4. Give each rep a few seconds. If the last video is still being saved when the next speed comes in, that rep may not be recorded.

With a Stalker radar, readings less than 3 seconds apart count as the same rep, so the numbers update on the same video instead of starting a new one.

### Change how much of each rep you keep

Tap the mode name, then **Sport-Radar** > **Sport-Radar Settings**:

* **Pre-speed duration**: how many seconds before the reading to keep (up to 15).
* **Post-speed duration**: how many seconds after the reading to keep (up to 60).
* **Enable Auto-Playback**: replay each video straight away.

The before and after times are shared with One-Tap mode, so changing them here changes them for One-Tap too. For a pitch, the speed comes in as the ball leaves the hand, so keep a few seconds before it. For a hit, the speed comes in at contact, so a couple of seconds after is enough to see the follow-through.

You can still change the frame rate, lens and shutter speed as usual. See [Record video in Onform](https://github.com/Onform-Inc/onform-docs/tree/main/get-started/how-onform-works/recording-modes.md).

## See the speed on the video

Open the video in the Library. The speed shows on the video as it plays.

* **Pocket Radar** shows the speed it measured.
* **Stalker** can show up to four numbers: **Exit Velocity**, **Peak Velocity**, **Spin Rate** and **Roll-down Speed**, depending on your radar and how it's set up.

To switch between miles per hour and kilometers per hour, tap the numbers on the video, tap **Speed: MPH** (or **Speed: KPH**) and choose **MPH** or **KPH**.

The speeds show when you watch in Onform on iPhone and iPad.

| **Integration Unavailable** | Onform isn't allowed to use Bluetooth. In your iPhone or iPad **Settings**, tap **Onform** and turn on **Bluetooth**. Then [close Onform completely](https://github.com/Onform-Inc/onform-docs/tree/main/help/troubleshooting/how-do-i-completely-close-my-app.md) and open it again. |
| **Battery low** or **Battery empty** | Charge the radar or change its batteries. |
| Some reps didn't record | Leave a few seconds between reps so each video can finish saving. Make sure the radar shows a reading for the rep: no reading, no video. |
| The radar keeps disconnecting, or you see an unknown error | Turn the radar off and on, keep it within a few meters of your device, and choose the radar again from **Sport-Radar**. Make sure Onform is up to date. |
| Your Stalker radar won't connect | Check its Bluetooth is on and it isn't connected to another app. If it still won't connect, write to <support@onform.com> with your Stalker model. |

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.onform.com/sports/hardware/radars-and-other-devices/how-to-setup-pocket-radar-with-onform.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
