# Set up Multi-Cam MAX

Set up Multi-Cam MAX: install the Camera Connector and drivers on the Windows PC, connect the cameras, add the bay on your iPad and calibrate.

Works on: iPad, with a Windows PC for the cameras. A Mac running the Onform app also works. You can't set up fixed cameras from iPhone or the Android and web apps.

Setting up a bay takes four steps: install the Onform Camera Connector on the PC, plug in the cameras, add the bay in Onform on your iPad, then fine-tune each camera's picture. You do this once per bay. After that, any coach in your organization can connect and record.

## Before you start

* **Multi-Cam MAX is turned on for your organization.** We do this once your hardware is in place. See [Multi-Cam MAX overview and requirements](/sports/launch-monitors-and-golf-hardware/multi-cam-max-overview.md).
* **The cameras, lenses, cables and a Windows 11 PC** that meet the PC requirements in [Multi-Cam MAX overview and requirements](/sports/launch-monitors-and-golf-hardware/multi-cam-max-overview.md).
* **The PC and the iPad on the same Wi-Fi network.** Guest and public networks often block devices from finding each other.
* **You're a coach or admin in the organization**, with the latest version of Onform from the App Store on your iPad.

## 1. Install the Camera Connector on the PC

The Camera Connector is a small app that runs in the Windows system tray. It talks to the cameras and sends their video to your iPad. It has no video screen of its own: you do everything else from the iPad.

1. On the PC, go to [onform.com/downloads](https://onform.com/downloads) and download the **Onform Camera Connector**.
2. Open the downloaded file and follow the installer.
3. If you're asked to, install the free [.NET 8 Desktop Runtime](https://dotnet.microsoft.com/en-us/download/dotnet/8.0) from Microsoft. The Camera Connector needs it.
4. Install the drivers for your cameras. FLIR and IDS drivers are on [onform.com/downloads](https://onform.com/downloads); IDS drivers are also on the [IDS website](https://en.ids-imaging.com/download-details/1012587.html).
5. Update the drivers for the PC's Nvidia graphics card to the latest version.
6. At the end of the installer, leave **Launch Onform Camera Connector** ticked and click **Finish**.

![The last screen of the Camera Connector installer, with Launch Onform Camera Connector ticked](https://1137458190-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F38lNPASgI1ZRltEOrER9%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-c3f8d1b72afa27f3b48b81580173abfe219f5752%2F4f62fee2-file-GI9aXlQ9Fa.png?alt=media)

The Camera Connector starts in the system tray, so no window pops up. Click its icon in the system tray to check it's running: it tells you to open the Onform camera on your iPad to set up the cameras.

## 2. Connect the cameras

1. Plug FLIR and IDS cameras into USB 3 ports on the PC. Connect OptiTrack cameras to the network switch, and the switch to the PC.
2. Fully close any other program that uses the cameras, such as the camera maker's viewer or other studio software. A camera can only be used by one program at a time.
3. Check the Camera Connector in the system tray: it shows how many cameras it found.

## 3. Add the bay in Onform on your iPad

Onform calls the set of cameras in one bay a **camera grouping**. You name it once, for example "Bay 1" or "Studio 2", and everyone in your organization sees that name.

{% embed url="<https://www.youtube.com/embed/O272ee_Jksg>" %}

1. Make sure the Camera Connector is running on the PC and the iPad is on the same Wi-Fi.
2. On the iPad, open Onform. If the account switcher at the bottom of the Home screen shows **Personal Account**, tap it and switch to your organization.
3. Tap **Library - All Files**, then tap the record button to open the camera.
4. Tap **Multi-Cam** at the top left, then **Configure Fixed Cameras**.
5. In **Manage Fixed Camera Groupings**, tap **+**.
6. Under **Select A Windows Device To Configure**, tap your PC's name. If you see **Scanning On Local Network** and no PC, give it a few seconds.
7. Type a name for the bay, such as "Bay 1", and tap **OK**. Wait while Onform shows **Configuring**.
8. Tap **Close**.

To start using the bay, tap **Multi-Cam** and then **Connect to** and the bay's name. You'll see a live preview from each camera. Other coaches in your organization can now connect from their own iPads the same way, with no setup.

## 4. Adjust each camera's picture

Once you're connected, each camera's preview has a **...** button. Use it to get a sharp, bright picture before your first lesson.

* **Set FPS (applies to all cameras):** choose the frame rate. Higher frame rates give more detail in fast movements but need more light.
* **Auto-Calibrate Exposure Settings:** Onform sets the brightness for you. When it's done, you'll see **Brightness Adjustments Completed**.
* **Manually-Calibrate Exposure Settings:** fine-tune it yourself.
  * **Set Shutter Speed:** a faster shutter means less motion blur but a darker picture.
  * **Set Gain:** higher gain is brighter but grainier.
  * **Set Gamma:** lower gamma gives more contrast.
* **Rotate Clockwise:** turn the picture to match how the camera is mounted, portrait or landscape. Your iPad remembers it for that camera.
* **Change Camera Position:** choose which angle appears first, second and so on.

**Focus each lens by hand at the camera.** The live preview on the iPad is lower resolution and about a second behind, so it's not a good guide to focus. Adjust the lens a little, record a short clip, check it on the iPad, and repeat until it's sharp.

In a typical golf studio, a down-the-line camera and a face-on camera give a view like this. You can rotate the iPad to fit the angles best.

![Two fixed camera previews, face-on and down the line, on an iPad connected to a bay](https://1137458190-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F38lNPASgI1ZRltEOrER9%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-4a2b1a7660eee4f86d85a4e25b22f443e5c86b2f%2Fca92ab51-file-zSWbparTQO.png?alt=media)

## Rename or remove a bay

1. If you're connected to the bay, tap **Multi-Cam**, then **Connected to** and the bay's name, then **Disconnect**.
2. Tap **Multi-Cam**, then **Configure Fixed Cameras**.
3. Tap the bay and choose **Rename** or **Delete**.

## Firewall settings (for your IT team)

The Camera Connector installer sets up the Windows firewall for you. If the iPad can't find the PC, ask whoever manages your network to check that Windows Defender Firewall allows these inbound connections on the PC:

* UDP port 5353, so the iPad can discover the PC on the network.
* TCP ports 49155 and 49180, which the Camera Connector uses to send video to the iPad.

## Update the Camera Connector

If Onform shows **Onform Camera Connector is out of date. Please update it on your Windows machine.**, download the latest version from [onform.com/downloads](https://onform.com/downloads) on the PC and install it. Keep the Onform app on your iPads up to date too.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.onform.com/sports/launch-monitors-and-golf-hardware/how-to-use-multi-cam-max.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
