# Track and field

How track and field coaches and athletes use Onform for sprint starts, jumps and throws: slow motion, angle, distance and timer tools, Compare and Multi-Cam.

Works on: iPhone, iPad, Android and web. The angle, distance and timer tools, Multi-Cam and the 2D skeleton are on iPhone and iPad only.

Technique in track and field happens in a fraction of a second: the first two steps out of the blocks, the penultimate step before takeoff, the block in a throw. Film it, step through it frame by frame, measure it, and send your athlete a Voice-over they can watch before their next session.

## Who uses Onform in track and field

* **College event-group coaches**, each looking after their own sprinters, hurdlers, jumpers, throwers or vaulters on a big roster.
* **High school coaches** with large teams and few assistants, who need to give every athlete useful feedback quickly.
* **Specialty academies**, such as pole vault and jumps clubs, teaching every athlete the same technical model.
* **Private event coaches** working one to one in sprints, jumps or throws.
* **Athletes**, chasing a PR with a coach or on their own, and **parents** following their progress.

## Track and field tools in Onform

| Tool | What it does | Read more |
| ---------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Slow motion and frame by frame** | Record at 120 or 240 fps for sprints and jumps, then step one frame at a time to stop on block clearance, touchdown, takeoff or release. | [Analysis tools at a glance](https://github.com/Onform-Inc/onform-docs/tree/main/get-started/how-onform-works/analysis-tools.md) |
| **One-Tap** | Tap as the athlete hits the board or releases the implement, and Onform keeps the seconds before and after, approach included. | [Record video in Onform](https://github.com/Onform-Inc/onform-docs/tree/main/get-started/how-onform-works/recording-modes.md) |
| **Angle tool** | Measures a joint angle, such as shin angle in the blocks, knee angle at takeoff or trunk angle at release. Drag the ends to fine-tune it. | [Using the Angle Tool](https://github.com/Onform-Inc/onform-docs/tree/main/coaching/analyze/using-the-angle-tool.md) |
| **Line with angle** | A straight line that shows its angle in degrees, for body lean out of the blocks or the angle of a javelin. | [Analysis tools at a glance](https://github.com/Onform-Inc/onform-docs/tree/main/get-started/how-onform-works/analysis-tools.md) |
| **Distance** | Shows a real-world length, such as a step or a hurdle clearance. First draw along something you know the length of and enter it, to set the scale. | [Analysis tools at a glance](https://github.com/Onform-Inc/onform-docs/tree/main/get-started/how-onform-works/analysis-tools.md) |
| **Timer** | A stopwatch on the video that counts from the frame where you place it, for ground contact times or a split. | [Analysis tools at a glance](https://github.com/Onform-Inc/onform-docs/tree/main/get-started/how-onform-works/analysis-tools.md) |
| **2D skeleton** | Draws a skeleton over your athlete with joint angles that update as they move. Works best with one athlete in the video and a steady camera. On plans that include it. | [Analysis tools at a glance](https://github.com/Onform-Inc/onform-docs/tree/main/get-started/how-onform-works/analysis-tools.md) |
| **Compare** | This week's jump next to last month's, or an athlete next to a model video you've imported, side by side or overlaid. | [Compare two videos](https://github.com/Onform-Inc/onform-docs/tree/main/coaching/analyze/how-to-compare-videos.md) |
| **Multi-Cam** | Films the same rep from up to four angles at once with extra iPhones or iPads, for example side-on and front-on for a block start. | [Record from several angles with Multi-Cam](https://github.com/Onform-Inc/onform-docs/tree/main/coaching/record-and-import/how-to-use-the-multi-cam-feature-to-record-multiple-camera-angles-simultaneously.md) |
| **Voice-over** | Talk your athlete through the rep while you pause, draw and measure. | [Record a Voice-over](https://github.com/Onform-Inc/onform-docs/tree/main/coaching/analyze/how-to-record-a-voiceover.md) |
| **Tags** | Starter tags for every event, such as Sprinting, Hurdles, Long Jump, Pole Vault, Shot Put and Javelin, so you can find every vault from the season. | [Stay organized with titles, tags and search](https://github.com/Onform-Inc/onform-docs/tree/main/coaching/record-and-import/stay-organized-with-titles-tags-and-search.md) |

Auto-Detect, Sport-Radar and 3D aren't available for track and field: Auto-Detect is for golf, baseball and softball, and 3D is golf only. Some tools depend on your plan. See [onform.com/pricing](https://onform.com/pricing/).

## Coaching a big roster

* Make a team for each event group, so sprinters, jumpers and throwers each have their own videos and chat. See [When to use individuals, teams or Collections](https://github.com/Onform-Inc/onform-docs/tree/main/programs/teams-and-rosters/when-to-use-individuals-teams-or-collections-to-stay-organized.md).
* Add your athletes to their team. Each athlete gets their own invite code. See [Invite your athletes](https://github.com/Onform-Inc/onform-docs/tree/main/coaching/organize-your-athletes/invite-your-athletes.md).
* Send one video to several athletes at once. See [Share videos with one or more people](https://github.com/Onform-Inc/onform-docs/tree/main/coaching/teach-and-share/how-to-share-videos-to-one-or-multiple-people.md).
* Have athletes film each other and send you their reps. See [Send a video to your coach](https://github.com/Onform-Inc/onform-docs/tree/main/athletes/practice-and-improve/how-to-athlete-share-to-coach.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.onform.com/sports/track-field/readme.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
