# Quick start: follow your child's progress

Join your child's coach on Onform for free with your own invite code, open the lessons the coach shares, and turn on notifications so you don't miss new ones.

Works on: iPhone, iPad, Android and web.

For parents whose child's coach has invited them to Onform. It's free for you: parents invited by a coach don't pay. By the end, you'll have opened the first lesson the coach shared.

## 1. Accept your invite

The coach sends you an invite code by text or email. It's **5 characters**, **case-sensitive**, and works **once**. It's yours alone: each person needs their own code, so don't use your child's code, and don't let them use yours.

* **New to Onform:** download Onform from the App Store or Google Play, or open the web app. Tap **I Have An Invite**, enter your code, then finish creating your account.
* **Already use Onform:** on the Home screen, tap **Personal Account** (or the name of the organization you're in), then tap **Enter Invite Code**.

Choose one way to sign in (Apple, Google, Microsoft or an email code) and use it every time, on every device. Signing in a different way can open a separate, empty account. See [Sign-in methods and more than one account](https://github.com/Onform-Inc/onform-docs/tree/main/account/sign-in-and-accounts/sign-in-methods-and-more-than-one-account.md).

Code not working? See [Join your coach with an invite code](https://github.com/Onform-Inc/onform-docs/tree/main/athletes/join-your-coach/join-your-coach-with-an-invite-code.md).

## 2. Open the first lesson

1. On the Home screen, tap your child's workspace. It's usually named after your child, their coach or their team.
2. Tap the coach's name to see what they've sent you. In a one-on-one workspace the coach is listed by name below **Chat** (**Chat** is your chat with your child); in a team, they're under **Members**. Lessons shared with a group you're in, such as **Everyone**, are under **Groups**.
3. Tap a video to play it.

That's your first win. Many lessons are **Voice-overs**: the coach talks through your child's clip, often drawing lines on it to show what they mean. The workspace's **Library** holds every video shared with you, and the coach can see when a video they sent has been watched.

You see what the coach shares with you or with a group you're in. If your child mentions a lesson you can't see, ask the coach to include you when they share.

## 3. Turn on notifications

Notifications let you know when the coach sends you a new message or video.

{% tabs %}
{% tab title="iPhone and iPad" %}

1. Open your child's workspace. If you see **Stay Connected**, tap **Allow Notifications**.
2. If iPhone asks, tap **Allow**.

Said no earlier? Open your iPhone or iPad **Settings**, tap **Onform** (under **Apps** on newer versions), then **Notifications**, and turn on **Allow Notifications**.
{% endtab %}

{% tab title="Android and web" %}
**Android:** when Onform asks to send notifications, tap **Allow**. If you turned them off, Onform shows **Notification Permission**: tap **Open Settings** and turn notifications on for Onform.

**Web:** when your browser asks to show notifications, allow it. If they're blocked, click the icon next to your browser's address bar, allow notifications, then reload the page.
{% endtab %}
{% endtabs %}

## 4. Look back over the season

Onform doesn't have a separate progress report. Instead, the workspace keeps the history: scroll back through **Chat** and **Library** to earlier lessons and clips, then watch a recent one to see how far your child has come.

## You're set up

* Filmed a practice at home? You can share it with the coach too: [Send a video to your coach](https://github.com/Onform-Inc/onform-docs/tree/main/athletes/practice-and-improve/how-to-athlete-share-to-coach.md)
* Asked to pay? Parents invited by a coach shouldn't be: [Why am I asked to pay?](https://github.com/Onform-Inc/onform-docs/tree/main/athletes/join-your-coach/why-am-i-asked-to-pay.md)

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.onform.com/start-here/parent.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
