# Quick start: run your own coaching business

For private coaches and instructors who pay for their own plan: invite your first three athletes with invite codes, send your first Voice-over lesson, and keep coaching between sessions.

Works on: iPhone, iPad, Android and web. Recording a Voice-over needs the iPhone, iPad or Android app.

For private coaches and instructors who run their own business, at a range, a club, a facility or online. By the end of your first three days, you'll have three athletes added and your first Voice-over lesson sent.

You need a coach plan. Every new account starts with a 14-day free trial with full access, and the athletes you invite use Onform free. See [Who pays for Onform?](https://github.com/Onform-Inc/onform-docs/tree/main/account/plans-and-payments/who-pays-for-onform.md) and [onform.com/pricing](https://onform.com/pricing/).

## 1. Add your first three athletes

Each athlete gets their own workspace: a private space for the two of you, with a chat and a Library of their videos.

{% tabs %}
{% tab title="iPhone and iPad" %}

1. On the Home screen, tap **+**.
2. Under **For 1:1 Coaching**, tap **Add Athlete Manually** (the word matches your sport, for example **Add Golfer Manually**).
3. Enter the athlete's first and last name.
4. Tap **Send Invite**, then send it by Messages, email, WhatsApp or any other app.
   {% endtab %}

{% tab title="Android and web" %}

1. On the Home screen, tap **+**.
2. Tap **Add New Athlete For 1:1 Coaching** (the word matches your sport).
3. Enter the athlete's details and check their **Role** is the athlete role.
4. Tap **Send Invite**, then share the code by text, email or a messaging app.
   {% endtab %}
   {% endtabs %}

Every invite is a **5-character code** that's **case-sensitive** and works **once**, so each athlete needs their own. You'll see **pending join** next to their name until they accept.

Start with three athletes you'll see this week, so your first lesson goes to someone who's already in. To invite parents or re-send a code, see [Invite your athletes](https://github.com/Onform-Inc/onform-docs/tree/main/coaching/organize-your-athletes/invite-your-athletes.md).

## 2. Record a rep and send your first lesson

Do this in your athlete's chat, so the lesson lands right where they'll look for it. A Voice-over is a new video of you talking through the rep while you play, pause and draw on it. The original video stays as it was.

{% tabs %}
{% tab title="iPhone and iPad" %}

1. Open your athlete's workspace and go to your chat with them.
2. Tap the camera and record a rep. It's posted in the chat and saved to their Library. Already filmed it? Use the attach menu and choose **Import From Camera Roll**.
3. Tap the video to open it, then tap the microphone at the top (**Record voice-over**).
4. Talk through the rep. Slow it down, pause it, and draw lines and angles as you go.
5. Tap stop. Watch the preview, trim it with the scissors if you like, or tap **Discard** to start again.
6. Tap **Save**, then add a title or tap **Skip**. The Voice-over is sent to your chat with the athlete.
   {% endtab %}

{% tab title="Android and web" %}

1. Open your athlete's workspace and go to your chat with them.
2. Add a video: choose **Camera** to record a rep, or pick one you've already filmed.
3. Tap the video to open it, then tap the microphone.
4. Talk through the rep, pausing and drawing as you go.
5. Stop recording, then tap **Save** (use **Trim** first if you like, or **Discard** to start again). The Voice-over is sent to your chat with the athlete.

On the web you can chat and add videos, but recording a Voice-over needs the Android, iPhone or iPad app.
{% endtab %}
{% endtabs %}

Thirty seconds on one key point is plenty, and your athlete can watch it as many times as they like. For more, see [Finding and Using the Drawing Toolbox](https://github.com/Onform-Inc/onform-docs/tree/main/coaching/analyze/finding-and-using-the-drawing-toolbox.md) and [How to record a Voice-over](https://github.com/Onform-Inc/onform-docs/tree/main/coaching/analyze/how-to-record-a-voiceover.md).

## 3. Keep coaching between sessions

* **Ask for a practice rep.** Your athlete can record or import a video in their workspace with you and send it your way. Reply the same way as above: open their video in the chat and record a Voice-over. If they need help getting set up, send them [Join your coach with an invite code](https://github.com/Onform-Inc/onform-docs/tree/main/athletes/join-your-coach/join-your-coach-with-an-invite-code.md).
* **Let athletes book their next lesson.** Add your lesson booking link, and athletes see it in the workspace you share with them. See [Bookings and scheduling links](https://github.com/Onform-Inc/onform-docs/tree/main/coaching/grow-your-coaching-business/bookings-and-scheduling-links.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.onform.com/start-here/solo-coach.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
